Dylan Alcott has been denied a fairytale finish to his tennis creer, after Sam Schroder defeated the retiring Australian in the final of the men’s wheelchair quad singles tournament, 7-5, 6-0.

The tournament is to be Alcott’s last, after a career spanning eight years, 15 Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals.

Alcott was named 2022 Australian of the Year on Thursday, for his work in disability acceptance.
